Representatives of Christ

I saw a clip from an interview with Jonathon Roumie who plays Jesus in The Chosen series and the woman he was talking to asked him, “if you were to have a cup of coffee with Jesus, what’s that one question you would ask?”.
His response really made me think. His answer was “how did I do? Did I get it close?”.
That hit me, “how did I do?”.
For Jonathan, I think that largely relates to his role and the fact that he was given the impossible task to represent Jesus perfectly to the world on a huge platform.
But when I think about how that applies to my life, it really makes me think about the way I live every day, and the way I show and represent Christ on a daily basis.
What do the people I encounter see in me? Someone who is different? Someone who they see Jesus in? Someone living a life different from what the world says they must and they want to know more?
Am I living in a way that those around me see the love of God, the mercy and grace of God, the forgiveness of God?
The scripture John 20:21 says “Then Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you [as My representatives].”
We are called by Jesus to represent Him, that is what He sent us to do.
This isn’t a works-based thing at all, it’s a lifestyle lived by pursuing Jesus and letting Him work in and through you.
When we are pursuing Him and giving our lives to Him, we will become more like Him.
We’re not always going to be perfect, it’s impossible, but we can pay attention to our actions and words, and we can continually draw near to God and stay in His word so that we can become more like Christ and have His word in our hearts.
The reality is, when were say we are a Christian and we're representing Christ, we're what people are judging Jesus off of. So if were claiming to be like Jesus, and at the same time are doing things opposite of the way He would, then we will only push people away from Him.
It goes the same for if we are accurately representing Him and He is what we're reflecting, people will be drawn to that and it will open a door to share His love and draw them to Him.
I encourage you to ask yourself, “is my life representing Christ and in what areas can I improve and grow in?”.
Again, this isn’t about your works and doing things just so people think you are a godly person. It’s a heart posture you have that in turn reflects Christ automatically in your life.
So, think about this today and continually pursue God, because if you’re spending time with Him and learning from His word, that is what will reflect to the world.
